Research in Poipet

Discussion on preliminary findings of research with migrant & street-connected children

up!s team, Jarrett and Jo, staff from our partner Damnok Toek and other child welfare professionals providing services to children in Poipet discussed the findings of our study with street-involved children during a workshop in Poipet on 24 January.  After presenting first results, there was a dialogue between participants on how the data matches with what teams are witnessing on the ground.  Main topics of discussion were:   increased vulnerability of children once they migrate greater distances cross-border,  and the challenges on how to identify and reach those children;  sexual violence against very young girls (ages 4-8); and the limited services addressing drug use and treatment for street involved youth.

The final version of the report will be out soon and presented to partners and stakeholders in Phnom Penh. The study  will be used to inform activities for children and youth in Poipet and for advocacy.
